Ancient Amathous is situated in the south coast of Cyprus on a cliff-top location having an amazing sea view. Amathus was founded by Theseus, son of the Greek demi-god Hercules and was considered as one of the most important kingdoms of the Hellenic age. Since 1980, until the present day, archaeological excavations revealed many treasures such as the Agora, the market, the Basilica and the temple of Aphrodite. Many treasures of Amathus are being shown in the Louvre Museum and British Museum.
