Posted on 15/09/2011

On Saturday 17 of September 2011 the public will be able to use all public buses for FREE throughout the whole day. This is one of the many initiatives taken ahead of the European Mobility Week, which is organized annually by the European Commission, and which will take place this year from the 16 to the 22 of September.

On the same day, the event "Go to Town without a Car" will take place in Makarios Avenue As a result, part of Makarios avenue will be closed for cars. In particular no car will be allowed acess from the intersection of Mnasiadou until Evagorou Street from 8:00 am until 2:00 p.m.

Furthermore, bus routes 116, 158 and 160 normally running through Makarios Avenue will be diverted. Those buses normally directed towards Solomos Square will be turning left from the traffic lights close to the Lycabettus Police station into Griva Digenis Street and turning right from Gavrielides traffic lights into Themistocles Dervis and towards Solomos Square.

The European Mobility Week is an awareness raising campaign aiming at sensibilising citizens to the use of public transport, cycling, walking and at encouraging European cities to promote these modes of transport and to invest in the new necessary infrastructures.
