Saint Lazarus is the patron saint of Larnaka. Lazarus after his resurrection he lived in Larnaca for 30 years and died at the age of 60. He was initially buried in a sarcophagus at Kition (Larnaka) and then the emperor of Byzantium Leo moved his remains to Istanbul. In return, he built the church at Larnaca devoted to St. Lazarus. St. Lazarus Church is the most important Christian church in Larnaca which is located in the very centre of the town. The church is very ornate with many icons, an altar and the tomb of Lazarus.
